During summer events, Doherty works as the head field clerk and coordinator on the behalf of Eagle Eye Timing. Even though he merely serves as a part time crew member, he is heavily valued for his work ethic and his willingness to take charge. In those aspects, he has also been valued as an effective troubleshooter.

Daniels and Branch have found Doherty to be resourceful, sensible, and even comical at times which has often lightened up the mood on stressful situations. He currently attends Lee's Summit High School in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Education seems to be a very important influence in his life given that his course curriculum comprises a strong emphasis on Advanced Placement (AP) college level courses. Running also serves as a major influence given that he achieved responsibility as team captain of the cross country team and also as a middle distance runner in track. Doherty looks to graduate from Lee's Summit High School in the spring of 2005 and looks forward to continuing his education and his running career at the University of Kansas.
